Once upon a time, many homes along beaches of the Jersey Shore were small, 1-story bungalows and cottages. Today, when custom home builders remodel or rebuild for customers to meet current elevation and Hurricane standards, houses are raised several feet from ground level (heights vary according to local ordinances). Homeowners should always have a safety plan in effect for their family’s safe exit from their home in case of fire or other emergencies. A safety plan should include a Plan A (usually egress via stairs), and a Plan B (for when stairs are blocked or inaccessible. Below are a few links that may be useful in formulating a plan that’s best for your situation. We, at MAC Builders, want to be sure that all of our customers and their families stay safe and enjoy life at the shore for many years to come.
